Joomla is ten years old! Celebrate with us and get a 30% discount on our products

Today (August 17th 2015 for you latecomers!) is a milestone in Joomla history; marking ten whole years since Joomla first forked off from the restrictions of Mambo and set out for open-source glory. Of course, that makes it sounds like it was much simpler than it actually was; an incredible amount of hard work was needed to get Joomla off the ground, and the Joomla team not only managed it, but Joomla went on to become the second most popular CMS in the world thanks to its remarkable flexibility and ever-expanding feature set.

The innovation that drove Joomla’s success

It wasn’t just the core team working on Joomla that led the innovation either; Joomla’s open-source values attracted some of the brightest web-development minds, who built up a one-of-a-kind community around it. If there’s one area where Joomla leads the pack, its in the feature-packed, diverse and powerful extensions, modules and templates that have resulted. Even WordPress struggles to match the functionality offered by premium, modern extensions such as the social-network-focused JomSocial, or the diverse choices available for popular areas such as ecommerce; with HikaShop, K2Store and VirtueMart just three of the available options Joomla users can choose from.

A community to be proud of

Despite its popularity, Joomla has remained a close-knit community, with contributors across the world helping to make Joomla a little better each day, whether its contributing to testing and bug-submissions, administrating the JED, or just helping out fellow users in the forum. The community as a whole wants Joomla to be the best it can be; we experience this with the helpful feedback we’ve received with our templates and our open-source modules. In fact, the community is so focused and helpful that we often find that they don’t just suggest improvements, they also mention ways we could achieve it!

A big thank you to everyone involved with Joomla!

So today is a day to celebrate, and for everyone who’s joined in with Joomla in any capacity to give themselves a pat on the back. And for template and extension developers like us, it’s also a chance to say thank you. Thank you to the Joomla founders who first put this project in motion, thank you to the contributors past and present who’ve lead Joomla to its current success, thank you to the users who have supported our releases and shared their valuable feedback, and thank you to our fellow template and extension developers, who we’ve been privileged to work alongside over the past years.
